Prerequisite Section I Geometry
Today we reviewed the formulas and how to generate the formulas for perimeter, area, and volume of a variety of geometric shapes. We will be building upon some of the techniques that we looked at today when we get to the calculus portion of the course. With calculus we will be able to find the area and volume of all kinds of shapes that are not geometric. Here's some additional practice geometry problems that provide some more practice working with the geometric formulas we covered in class today. Here are some more challenging practice geometry problems if you're interested. Here's a site that allows you to generate cubes of various sizes and compare the ratio of surface area and volume. If you're interested in biology, you might want to check out this powerpoint which shows how the surface area and volume of a cell affects its growth and division. Let me know if any of you find any other online resources that relate to perimeter, area, volume, or surface area. Remember the Summer Review Packet is due on Thursday. If you have any questions on it, please stop by my classroom tomorrow before school, at lunch, or afterschool, and I'll be happy to help you out.

Welcome to Mr. Demsey's AP Calculus AB class!
Welcome to the first day of AP Calculus AB!
I'm looking forward to great school year getting to know you and helping you to understand the concepts and methods of calculus. To be successful you will need to work hard, and I pledge to do the same. Throughout the year, remember to utilize the free online resources, classroom handouts, and notes videos that are available at my website www.mrdemsey.com. I will continue to update it throughout the year, and if you find any other useful online resources that are not already listed there, please let me know so I can add them. Also remember that you are welcome to come in for extra help outside of class during my office hours. Remember to fill out, sign, and have your parents sign the Student Information Sheet and return it to my homework lock box on Tuesday, August 25th. The first homework assignment, the Summer Review Packet, is due this Thursday, August 27th. Be sure to come in for extra help, if you need it, before Thursday. Here's a short little video I made this summer while learning how to use Windows Movie Maker.
